How can I be referred to Goole?
Patient Choice
You now have a choice about where you receive treatment and when. Patient Choice is a part of the Department of Health policy allowing you under the Choose and Book system a choice of at least 4-5 hospitals, should you need a referral. You will have the opportunity to choose a time and date at one of the hospitals for your treatment when it suits you. The providers of care will include different NHS hospitals and may include diagnosis and treatment centres, or specialists and independent hospitals.
Why Choose Goole Surgical Treatment Centre?
Goole Surgical Treatment Centre has been operational now since 2003 and during this time we have built a reputation for providing a patient focused service, putting the patient in the very centre of everything that we do.
We have redesigned our pathways, stream lined the patient journey, reducing the number of visits to the hospital. Appointments are made to suit you, the patient, enabling you to plan your surgery around your work and home commitments.
If you would like to find out more or if you are interested in visiting the GSTC, please Contact Us and we’ll be happy to arrange a suitable time to show you around.
Choose and Book
The introduction of the Choose and Book system in December 2005 has enabled electronic referrals to be made to the hospital of your choice at a time and date that suits you and your family. This can take place before you leave the GP practice, or by calling the Contact Centre on the phone number provided by your GP. For more information on how to access the services via the Choose and Book system, go to www.chooseandbook.nhs.uk * Only applicable to England.
How can I be referred for treatment at the GSTC?
No matter where you live in the country you have a right to choose where to have your treatment. Visit your GP today and make Goole your first choice.
The Patient Pathway of Care
Your GP can refer you into any of the services offered at the GSTC either via the Choose and Book system or by sending in a paper referral. When the referral is received at the GSTC, one of the Patient Liaison Officers will contact you to agree, or confirm, your pre-assessment appointment and agree with you a provisional theatre date should you require surgery.
You will then receive relevant information about your procedure and hospital stay. Pre-assessment takes place at a time and date that suits you. You will meet the medical staff, the nurses and therapists who will be taking care of you throughout your treatment and all relevant tests will be undertaken at your first visit. Should any further investigations be required, prior to surgery, an appointment will be agreed with you at your first visit. Please allow up to three hours for this visit. We have a restaurant on site and in the waiting areas tea and coffee are provided for you and your friends and family accompanying you.
We believe that giving continuity of care is important therefore all of our staff have been trained to a very high standard and are skilled to work both on the wards and in the outpatient setting. This ensures that you are cared for by the same team of staff throughout your pathway of care. Following your pre-assessment you will receive confirmation of your operation date.
