The Patient Pathway of Care
Your GP can refer you into any of the services offered at Goole & District Hospital either via the Choose and Book system or by sending in a paper referral. When the referral is received at the hospital, one of the Patient Liaison Officers will contact you to agree, or confirm, your pre-assessment appointment. You will then receive relevant information about your appointment. On the day of your appointment you will meet the Consultant and should any surgery be required you will be offered a pre-assessment on the same day. The nurses who pre-assess you will be taking care of you throughout your treatment and all relevant tests will be undertaken at your first visit. Should you require an ultrasound scan as part of your consultation, again this can be provided on your first visit. Should any further investigations be required, prior to surgery, an appointment will be agreed with you at your first visit. Please allow up to 3 hours for this visit. We have a restaurant on site and in the waiting areas tea and coffee machines are available for you and your friends and family accompanying you.
We believe that giving continuity of care is important therefore all of our staff have been trained to a very high standard and are skilled to work both on the wards and in the outpatient setting. This ensures that you are cared for by the same team of staff throughout your pathway of care. Following your pre-assessment you will receive confirmation of your operation date.
Your Gynaecology surgeon will:
- Confirm your diagnosis
- Liaise with the nursing staff to perform additional tests on the day if required
- Discuss the proposed management of your care
- Discuss any concerns that you and your family may have concerning your treatment
- Obtain your informed and written consent for your operation
At your first appointment, should you require any surgery, you will meet the nursing teams who will carry out a pre-assessment and will discuss with you your home circumstances and any adaptations that may be required following surgery. They will provide you with an indication of how long you may need to take off work and you will have the opportunity to discuss any concerns or queries you may have.
When you leave your pre-assessment appointment a member of the admin team will confirm your theatre date and you will take with you any equipment, information and medication required.
On the Day of Surgery
You will arrive at the previously agreed time and be greeted by the nursing staff on the appropriate ward who will be able to give you an indication of the time you are likely to have your surgery. We make every effort to ensure your stay with us is as comfortable as possible, we appreciate that a stay in hospital can be an anxious time and choosing Goole & District Hospital can reduce your concerns considerably. Your care, comfort and convenience are the highest priority for our consultants, nursing staff, and therapists who offer the highest standards of clinical and personal care.
Following your surgery, our care for you does not end there, we are only a phone call away, should you have any concerns or queries you are more than welcome to Contact Us to speak to any member of our team. Your follow up appointments will be arranged for you by our admin team and again you will see the same members of our medical, nursing and therapy teams. Our focus is on you, the patient, that is why we put you at the very centre of everything that we do.
