Special Clinical Interest: Computer Navigated Knee replacement. ACL double bundle reconstruction Research Interests: ACL and PCL topography Year of Graduation: 1992 (St Bartholomew’s Hospital Medical School, London) Professional qualifications: MBBS, FRCS, FRCS, FRCS, PGDipSports and Exercise Medicine
Memberships: British Trauma SocietyI am a specialist in lower limb orthopaedics taking referrals for major joint arthroplasty, ACL reconstruction, knee and ankle arthroscopy and general foot and ankle conditions. My main interest is in knee surgery – including sports injuries, cruciate ligament injuries, partial and total joint replacement, and computer guided surgery. I also am trained in less invasive techniques for partial knee replacement and hip replacement.
I qualified from St Bartholomew’s Hospital Medical School, London in 1992. As a specialist registrar in London and the South West Thames region I spent over 2 years as a senior trainee with consultants who work at the Elective Orthopaedic Centre (EOC) in Surrey specialising in hip and knee surgery and subsequently spent 15 months as a consultant performing total hip and knee replacements, unicompartment knee replacements and ACL reconstruction. I passed the specialty exam FRCS (Tr & O) in 2006. In my training I undertook a fellowship in New Zealand (2002) focusing on trauma and knee surgery. I also undertook full time research (2004/5) at Imperial College London under the supervision of Prof. A.A.Amis studying the anatomy of the ACL and PCL of the knee including publishing papers on the attachments of the bundles of the ACL and PCL and designing a prototype tibial ACL guide. I have a postgraduate Diploma in Sports and Exercise Medicine from the University of Bath (2001) and am currently awaiting examination of my thesis on the ACL and PCL towards the degree of Master of Surgery, University of London. I took up a locum post as a lower limb and trauma consultant at Epsom and St Helier’s NHS Trust and the EOC in January 2009. In May 2010 I was appointed as a substantive consultant orthopaedic surgeon at Goole Hospital (part of the Northern Lincolnshire and Goole Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust). At Goole I hope to develop the lower limb service to include being a centre for computer navigation in knee surgery.
