Awards
The Goole Surgical Treatment Centre (GSTC), a winner of major National Awards has treated in excess of five thousand patients from throughout the region for cataract and orthopaedic surgery.
The GSTC, built at the Goole and District Hospital and part of Northern Lincolnshire and Goole Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, is the proud winner of the Innovation in the Workforce Awards at the NHS Modernisation Agency’s Treatment Centre Innovation Awards.
The centre has developed a series of new roles for staff within its structure including:
- Advanced Health Care Assistant generic worker role
- AHCA in scrub skills
- Advanced Nurse Practitioner
- Modern Matron role combined with unit manager
- F Grade team leader for high dependency area
Since opening, patient comments have included:
- “I thought I was in a ten star hotel”
- “The hospital is a credit to the NHS”
- “Completely satisfied with everything”
- “If I had been private the results could not have been better”
The staff here are a credit to the Trust in the way they have responded to the diverse needs of the patients we are treating.

General Surgery Awards
The General Surgery Team, lead by Mr Peter Moore, received the Service Transformation Award, presented by Mr. Alan Johnson in March 2008 for their pioneering work on Laser Haemorrhoidectomy reducing the length of stay in hospital from 2 days down to 2 hours.
A runner up award was also won by the team for the development of the Single Visit Day Case and Short Stay General Surgery patients.
Mr Makani Hemadri, General Surgery, has won the Hidden Hero of the NHS Award – BMA (British Medical Association) 2006 for introducing Laparoscopic Hernia Repair at the GSTC and for service initiative improvements at Goole.
We were invited to speak at the British Medical Laser Association’s conference in 2007 about our Laser Haemorrhoidectomy work.
